Lai, current student of the MSc in Sports Industry Management gives us some insights about the visit of IBM she did with her cohort back in January. All students from the program were able to get an exclusive look at this “eye opening experience”.

“When I joined the program, I didn’t have any clue what would be the close relation between IBM and the sports industry. At the end of the day, it turns out that the visit of IBM was an amazing eye-opening experience. IBM matters a great deal for sports as it provides design, strategy, technology and data to improve fan engagement, venue optimization and team performance.

During the visit, we followed the schedule below:

  • Brief introduction of IBM Sports and Entertainment;
  • IBM and Tennis (data collection, data analysis, AI is transforming and changing experience);
  • IBM and the other sports (Rugby, Golf, Hockey, Formula 1, Cycling and so on);
  • What’s coming in the future;
  • Last but not least, a brilliant Q&A session.

It is really important to understand that we need technology companies’ expertise to perfect the overall experience of sports. According to future previsions and trends, tech-companies could provide insights and solutions to improve the interactive experience and provide more comfort in stadiums.

Finally, tech-companies are definitely useful to collect sports event data and analysis for sports players and coaches. A reliable tool to improve their performances. “
