Camille Salmon (Birchbox): "emlyon business school represents such a happy time!”

May 23, 2018

Recently recruited as Marketing Director at Birchbox, Camille Salmon (Marketing 2005) is responsible for strengthening the group’s e-shop catalogue.

What motivates you in your new role at Birchbox?

After 6 years at Sephora, it was an opportunity to discover a new way of working for a “pure player.” I wanted to find a smaller structure, a more versatile position and add a digital string to my bow. It is interesting to see that the beauty box market is expanding today.

I am responsible for developing Birchbox’s appeal to cosmetics brands, and for developing the e-shop catalogue. Our strength is that we constantly find new brands to present to our customers, who may not necessarily beauty addicts, but who want to be advised on beauty products. They fill out a beauty profile and each month they receive personalized gifts. And thanks to the opening of our concept-store, major cosmetic brands will be able to work with us while still respecting their selective distribution contracts. This store represents a new era for Birchbox.

Was it Birchbox that approached you?

Yes, when he took office as CEO, Quentin Reygrobellet, an emlyon business school alumni, contacted me. That is one of the school’s great strengths: the connections!

What are your connections with emlyon business school today?

I have strong ties; emlyon business school represents such a happy time! My roommate, my husband (who I met there), the friends in the ski club was an unforgettable time

Who inspires you?

Morgane Sézaroly, the founder of Sézane. She started selling clothes she found in vintage stores on E-bay. The she launched her first website “Les Components” before creating her own collections under the Sézane brand. Recently, she opened “L’apartment” where she presents her seasonal collections. Her career is super interesting.

One rule you apply at work?

Pareto's law: 80% of the effects are the product of 20% of the causes. I learned this from Sephora.

What’s your ideal Christmas present?

A subscription for 3, 6 or 12 boxes and my 3 party essentials: candle, mascara and blush.
